High School Musical was an instant hit that kind of came out of no where. Disney has produced over 370 made-for-TV-movies, and I don’t think they could have been prepared for the instant success that would come become the High School Musical franchise! I only assume this because I’m guessing it would have been made for the theater had they prepare for that kind of success, but I’ve been wrong before.
With PROM hitting theaters April 29th, I can’t help but wonder if it’s going to top the charts in the same way. After all, there are a few key elements that make me think it could have the same success.
** High-school setting & geared towards an event all teens can relate to: Much like HSM where teens who love drama (both on and off the stage) could relate to the characters; I see much of the same formula here.
** Stereotypical charters: You’ve got a character for each crowd, someone every kid can relate to.
** The You-Tube Effect: Much like real life this movie will feature a “personal interview” aspect where the characters are taped sharing often funny dialog about life and the prom. This aspect would be comparable to the “musical numbers” in HSM.
I really think Disney could have another teen franchise on their hands with this one, and I can’t wait to see it!

What do you think? Will it be the next big thing?
