Trials & Temptations : Consider It Pure Joy

Study-Book-Of-James

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds James 1:2

Cancer
Family arguments
A friend’s betrayal
A husband’s affair
Car accidents
Alzheimer’s
Oppression
Losing a job
Hate

How joyful do the trials above make you feel? Have you ever thought man, I hope I get cancer, because I could really glorify God during that trial! No, of course not, and I’m not suggesting we need to hope for trials, but the truth is, whether we like it or not, we will endure a fair share of trials in our lives. So what are we to do?

James tells us to consider it pure joy when we face trials of many kinds… SAY WHAT?

Consider It Pure Joy:

My life has been full of trials and temptations. Some of these trials have refined me in a ways, I could have never imagined, and some of the trials in my life have shown me just how shallow my faith really was. The amazing thing is that every single trial really does serve a purpose (even if we never fully understand those purposes). Through the trials of my divorce and remarriage, I learned how easily I could stray, but I also learned how gracious our God is, more about forgiveness than I ever wanted to know, that God answers prayers, and that He can be trusted 100%.

Trials are terribly hard and painful, I’m not saying they aren’t, BUT we can consider them pure joy because our God desires to grow us up! He doesn’t want us to remain babies forever, and how amazing is that? When we go through trials as Christians we can rest in the fact that God himself wants to strengthen and challenge our faith. He wants to change us, and isn’t that what we all pray for? Lasting change comes through hard work, dedication, and often pain, so it makes sense that things would have to get rough before we could experience the growth we need.

Attitude is everything

If you can stop and look at the trials you are facing right now, with the knowledge that God is refining you, and deepening the roots of your faith, it may just change the way you view your life, and change the way you face these trials. You can face your trials with a comfort and confidence in knowing that God hasn’t forgotten about you, you can rest in peace knowing that He is right there with you, rooting for your growth, like a loving father training his child.

God is molding you into the beautiful person he wants you to be. A person who looks more like Jesus! We are not worthy of such great love!

Is there a trial in your life that you need to start viewing through the eyes of faith?

In the next post, we’ll look at how this attitude can change our actions.

Any of us who has birthed a child knows there is pain in the process, but pure joy follows. Many of us who have been through cancer with chemo and radiation also know that the special people God puts on our pathway that link arms with us and carry us through that process show us joy during that trial that we wouldn't know any other way. Yes, I can thank him for those experiences and many more, and knowing He has been faithful to me through my trials, shows me He will continue to be.

Thank you Beth, I really appreciate that. She was one of the most amazing women I have ever met! I am glad to know that she is with the King. I'm not there either, but just thinking about it changes my perspective of even the littlest trials.
