I will start by clearing the air, and answering the question I know you’re dying to ask. NO they do NOT wear anything under their kilts!! Why you ask? Well because there is not need for it. Apparently, kilts are very warm, and the Scottish are no-nonsense kind of folk! Also, it’s a lot easier to moon without undies ;).
We had so much fun learning about the background and the charters of Brave. During the press day they actually had a man come in wearing a kilt, and he taught us all about kilts and what the locals do and wear (you know besides the kilt of course). That’s the most amazing thing about Pixar and Disney, they both go above and beyond when it comes to making a film. They immerse themselves in the location, the characters, and the time period. They learn everything they possibly can, so they can provide a real to life (though still fairy tale) story for the viewers. I wish everyone could have an opportunity like the one we were given. I believe it would give people a much greater respect for the movie, the crew, and what goes into a 2 hour film.
Check out this hilarious kilt video from Pixar:
Super cool facts about kilts that you probably never wanted to know:
- Each kilt is made of about eight yards of material.
- An average worsted wool kilt weighs around 4.5 to 5 pounds.
- Each handmade kilt takes a total of about 15 hours solid work to complete.
- There are more than 4000 tartans.
