This is the gate that currently keeps my 2-year-old safe in her room at night. We have had a few friends comment on our obsessive use of safety gates over the last seven years, but it doesn’t bother me! I use gates to keep my kids safe. If there were no gate in my daughter’s doorway she would wake up at 2 am and wander around the house (happened when she learned to climb over the last gate) and I’m no sure where we may find her, or what she may have ingested! She gets into EVERYTHING. She has tried to eat lotion, shampoo, sunscreen, you name it, she’s tried to eat it.
Just the other day she almost used an eczema steroid ointment as toothpaste!
I try to keep everything on lock-down. Cabinets, drawers, laundry room. With four kids it is impossible to watch them every second, and my safety gear gives me peace of mind. Although accidents still happen, I am positive we have been spared many because of our precautions!
What do you do to protect your kids?
I have never let my kiddos play with my pots and pans, so they don’t try to grab them from the stove.
I use safety gates to keep toddlers in their bedroom at bed time and crawling babies in a “crawl-safe” area!
I lock all cabinets and drawers that contain cleaners, meds, and other dangerous items.
I don’t use coffee or end tables, so we don’t have to worry about sharp edges!
You know the only thing I have never been big on is outlet covers! They are such a pain, and I have never had an issue with the kids trying to explore them!
