It’s that time of year again! Are you as excited as I am? I’m sure you are!
I am a work at home mom, so summer is a welcome break from waking up early every morning and preparing breakfast, packing lunches, and getting the kids out the door to catch the bus. Sure, I still wake up early to make breakfast, but the rest of the day goes a little smoother, for a few weeks. After the newness of summer wears off and we have taken our family summer vacation I have to be honest, I start counting down the days until school starts again.
As much as I love being able to spend summer vacation with my children, I struggle to balance being a stay at home mom and working from home. It’s hard, and it’s stressful. So I look forward to the first few weeks of school because it feels like I have a “legit job” again. That and my house stays clean ALL day! It’s the craziest thing. I clean it in the morning, and it stays clean until 3:30 pm!
As I shared a few posts back, one of my favorite things about the back to school season is back to school shopping, but it’s not just shopping for clothes that I enjoy, I enjoy shopping for supplies as well. Can you imagine what it’s like shopping for four children? (Probably only if you have four children right). Let’s just say it’s chaotic and awesome. Think Supermarket Sweep on steroids, but only with school supplies!
This is what school supplies for four children look like:
When I’m shopping, I always try to grab the Wish List items even though I know they aren’t required. I have lots of friends and family members that are educators and trust me when I say they appreciate parents that bring in wish list items. Things like Viva Paper Towels and Kleenex Everyday Facial Tissue are more than wish list items they are necessities. Not only do they save the teachers time when cleaning up messes, and helping tiny students with runny noses they can also help schools in a BIG way!
If you aren’t already saving Box Tops for Education, now is a great time to start!
My daughter’s elementary school has been collecting Box Tops for Education for years, and they have earned thousands of dollars for new supplies, as you can see below, but this year I have a different goal!
My son’s started a new school this year. They are attending a new STEM school, and when I checked their Box Tops for Education account, I noticed that they didn’t earn any money last year. So my plan is to bring this up at the PTO meeting this month and see if we host a Box Tops drive for the next couple months to raise awareness. I think it’s easy for parents of younger children to remember to collect Box Tops but many times parents of older children don’t remember, or the students aren’t as interested in taking in a baggie of Box Tops.
That’s why I decided to paint this cute wooden box for my kitchen! It matches my kitchen perfectly and will be a great reminder to collect Box Tops all year long for my Middle School aged children. While I know all of my children will benefit from Box Tops my older children’s school can use the help because they operate off of grants, and their wish list is a mile long!
